Held during Circular Economy Week, the third annual Sustainable City Charter Showcase event explored how circularity helping reduce the carbon emissions associated with Westminster’s built environment and supporting the transition to a greener, cleaner city. By prioritising the reuse, repair and recycling of buildings and materials, rather than disposing of them, circular approaches can reduce waste, conserve resources and lower operational carbon.
Attendees heard from Cllr Tim Mitchell, Cabinet Member for City Management at Westminster City Council on the progress Westminster businesses have made in carbon reduction. This was followed by a presentation on Grosvenor Property’s South Molton development, where circular economy principles have been put into practice.
In a panel discussion, industry leaders explored the opportunities to extend the life of buildings and materials and unlock greater value from existing resources. Speakers considered how circular approaches can be embedded across procurement, supply chains, deliveries and logistics, sharing practical examples, lessons learnt and the challenges that remain.
