NextGen attendees were not disappointed by the launch of WPA NextGen’s Spotlight Series, hosted at Eccleston Yard’s trendy new eatery Wild by Tart. Over 100 attendees came to hear Olivia Harris (WPA Chair and Chief Executive of Dolphin Living) and Paul Williams (WPA Vice Chair and Chief Executive of Derwent London) share insights of their personal and professional journeys.

After a fun quickfire round, establishing whether Olivia and Paul preferred ‘Meghan or Kate’; North of the River or South of the River’ or ‘Theatre or Cinema’, NextGen members heard how the WPA Vice Chairs’ progressed their career from entry level to Board level, and how their day-to-day role has changed. Supported by NextGen Champions Gardiner & Theobald, the WPA NextGen Spotlight Series provides NextGen members with the opportunity to focus on career development and network with senior property professionals.

Throughout the informal discussion, moderated by James Burrage (WPA NextGen Chair and Development Manager at Great Portland Estates) and Amanda Sheppard (WPA NextGen Vice Chair and Asset Manager at Grosvenor GBI), members were provided invaluable advice on how best to progress their careers. Top tips included ‘managing upwards’ and having open conversations with leaders. Engaged audience members strove to find out what the WPA Co-Vice Chairs are doing to support future industry leaders within their organisation; what their biggest career challenges have been; and who they have learnt most from.
