Last week, nearly 100 WPA members attended a breakfast seminar about the exciting plans to transform the Strand Aldwych into a world-class cultural and learning quarter. Kindly hosted by LSE at their new Centre Building, the event provided an update for members on the City Council’s planning proposals.

Ruth Duston, Chief Executive of The Northbank BID opened the seminar, before Ruchi Chakravarty, Head of Placeshaping at Westminster City Council, presented on the future vision for the area.

An expert panel discussed the key issues facing the area including the potential for future growth; the need to create a ‘Northbank’ identity; the unique role of the area’s world class educational institutions and how the plans to transform the area align with the priorities for local businesses and cultural institutions.

Speakers included:

  • Ruchi Chakravarty, Head of Placeshaping, Westminster City Council
  • Ceri Hand, Director of Programmes, Somerset House
  • Andy Hicks, Estate Director at CapCo and Chairman of Northbank
  • Julian Robinson, Director of Estates, LSE
