Following the 32nd WPA Annual General Meeting, we welcomed 160 members and stakeholders at the National Portrait Gallery for our AGM Reception.

Opening the event, Olivia Harris (Chief Executive of Dolphin Living) gave her first address to the membership since being elected WPA Chair in January. Olivia, the first female Chair of WPA, shared her vision for the Association during her tenure. The WPA will continue to progress its Good Growth agenda for the benefit of the City and all its residents, workers and visitors. Later this year, the Association will publish a Climate Change White Paper setting out how our members can support the council in its plans to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Members also heard from Dr Nicholas Cullinan (Director of the National Portrait Gallery), who outlined the details of the Gallery’s upcoming £35.5m renovation. The ‘Inspiring People’ project, which will create a new public forecourt, state of the art learning centre and a more welcoming visitor entrance, will transform the West End.

Delivering the keynote address of the night, Cllr Rachael Robathan, the newly appointed leader of Westminster City Council, updated members on the council’s new ‘City for All’ strategy. Westminster is open for business and investment, but the council want to see responsible growth to deliver on priorities for local residents. Cllr Robathan is passionate about making sure that Westminster will become the city known for leading the way in tackling climate change and improving air quality. Ending her speech, Rachael paid credit to the property sector for helping deliver the council’s vision.

Following the event’s three speeches, Paul Williams (WPA Vice Chair and Chief Executive of Derwent London) invited attendees to a private tour of the David Hockney: Drawing from Life exhibition.
